The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles traveled to Midway to battle the Midway Eagles on Friday in a big conference matchup. In a game that went down to the wire, the hosts prevailed 73-68.

In the opening half, both clubs came out of the gates matching each other shot for shot. When the buzzer sounded signaling intermission, Midway was clinging to a slim lead: 36-35.

In the second half, the game remained tight throughout. Sparked by the play of Ariel Nickell and Bailey Gabbard, ALC took a two point lead with just 2:00 remaining on the clock (68-66). Regaining possession of the ball, Midway came back to tie the contest once more on a jumper.

On their next possession, ALC missed, and the hosts were able to capitalize once again to retake the lead at 70-68.

With under a minute left, Alice Lloyd again failed to make a basket and was forced to foul. Midway then sank some huge late free throws to seal the game in their favor.

For ALC (5-17, 2-2 KIAC), Nickell led all scorers with 30 points. She added 8 rebounds, too. Gabbard also shot well and accumulated 18 points. Sara Burchell and Chelsey Brown each distributed 4 assists.

Midway (3-16, 2-2 KIAC) was led by Whitney Odom with 20 points.
