The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles faced the KIAC’S top ranked team, the Indiana University Southeast Lady Grenadiers on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Eagles played hard and kept the game close for thirty minutes before the visitors went on a massive run to win going away 82-54. The Lady Eagles came into the contest shorthanded. Forwards Haley Smith, Laken Gilliam, and guard Leanne Mullins all have suffered major injuries and were not available to play. In addition, Gemma Gray and her 16 points per game average were not there either. In the opening half, the Grenadiers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes. Sparked by forward Ariel Nickell and guard Lacinda Hack off the bench, the hosts steadied themselves and began to fight back. When the halftime buzzer sounded, Alice Lloyd trailed 38-28. In the final stanza, ALC kept up their intensity. When forward Chelsea Brown connected on a drive at 10:00, the deficit was only seven (49-42). At this point IUSE exploded on a 25-7 run over the next 6:30, sparked by forward Tia Wineinger. When the dust settled, Indiana led 74-49, and the game was out of reach. For Alice Lloyd (2-15, 0-1 KIAC), Nickell led the way as she tossed in 17. She also added a team high 7 rebounds. Hack and Brown each chipped in 8 points each. The Lady Grenadiers (13-5, 3-0 KIAC) were led by Wineinger with a game high 21 points.
