The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles journeyed to Wilmore to play two matchups in the Asbury University Classic over the weekend. Below are recaps of each game.

December 2nd

ALC 73

Kentucky Christian Knights 79

The Lady Eagles opened up play on Friday against the undefeated Kentucky Christian Lady Knights, the nation’s top ranked NCCAA squad. Alice Lloyd battled to the very end before falling 79-73.

In the first half, KCU rode the play of their guards Autumn Carter and Tara Weddle to take a 36-28 lead after twenty minutes of play.

In the second half, ALC’s dynamic duo of Ariel Nickell and Gemma Gray led the Eagles back to tie the score early, and both clubs fought hard until the last horn sounded. The Knight managed to knock down 9-11 free throws in the half to preserve the win.

For ALC, Nickell led all scorers with 24 points.  She also added a game–high 9 rebounds. Gray was the game’s second highest scorer as she finished with 19. This included her hitting 5-9 from behind the arc.

Freshman Haley Smith chipped in with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Carter and Weddle led the Knights (9-0) with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

 

December 3rd

ALC 66

Rochester College 75

The Lady Eagles opened up play on Saturday against Rochester College (Rochester Hills, Michigan). Alice Lloyd scrapped to the final buzzer before being handed a 75-66 setback.

In the opening stanza, Rochester shot just under 50% as they slipped out to a 35-30 advantage at intermission.

The second half featured the Eagles fighting their opponent to the wire for the third straight game only to see their foe ice the contest from the free throw stripe.

For ALC, Gemma Gray led all scorers with 21 points, which included her hitting 4-7 from behind the arc. She added 4 rebounds, as well.

Ariel Nickell finished with 14 points, and once again led all rebounders with 9. Sophomore Courtney Crowder chipped in with 9 points.

Elizabeth Stockwell paced Rochester (7-5) with 20 points.
