Montreat Cavaliers 106

The Eagles opened up action on Friday against Montreat College.  The game was a high scoring affair from the tip-off.

In the first half, the hosts came out of the gates on fire. Sparked by the shooting of guard LaBris Adams, Montreat ran out to a 49-28 lead by intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles matched Montreat bucket for bucket, but each time Alice Lloyd seemed poised to make a comeback, Montreat would sink a big shot to get some breathing room. They were able to maintain an advantage until the final horn.

For ALC, sophomore guard Isaac Wilson tossed in 28 points and handed out a game-high 8 assists. He was followed closely in the scoring column by senior forward Brandon Hayes with 21. Hayes completed the double-double as he also corralled 12 rebounds. Senior Casey Dalton was close behind as he chipped in with 19 points.

For Montreat (2-6), Adams connected on 14-15 field goals for his game-high 36 points.

On the night the Eagles shot an even 50% from the field (32-64) and hit 40% (8-20) from downtown; both were solid numbers. This pales in comparison, however, to the Cavaliers who hit a sizzling 73.3% (43-60) from the floor and 58.3% (8-12) from beyond the arc.

Warren Wilson Owls 89

The second date of the road trip saw ALC face the Warren Wilson Owls. The Eagles had defeated Warren Wilson a few weeks ago in a close game, and this one proved no different as the game was tight throughout.

In the first half, the Owls jumped out to a quick lead only to watch Alice Lloyd battle back. A late run by the hosts sent them into the locker room with a 47-38 cushion.

In the second half, ALC fought until the very end.  After being behind by as many as 17 points, they sliced the deficit to just three with 4:33 remaining. Unfortunately, Warren Wilson regrouped and sealed the contest from the charity stripe. They sank 12-14 during the last few minutes.

For ALC (4-3), Shawn Thompson led all scorers with 27 points. He was followed by Brent Hall with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Isaac Wilson added 12 points and a game high 8 assists.

For Warren Wilson (3-4), Anthony Barringer led the way with 25 points.

The difference in the game was percentage shooting. The Eagles shot just 37.5% from the field compared to Warren Wilson’s 41.9%.  At the free throw line, Warren Wilson shot 84.8% (28-33). ALC shot a respectable 75% (24-32).
