6’1 center Laura Walters tossed in 22 points to lead the visiting Union College Bulldogs to a 97-64 victory over Alice Lloyd last night.

In the first half, the Lady Eagles hung tight. Sparked by sophomore forward Ariel Nickell’s 15 points, they kept the game within striking distance.

Around the 8:00 mark, Union suddenly caught fire from long range. The Bulldogs hit 8-15 from downtown in the first half. When the buzzer sounded for intermission, Union’s lead had grown to 20 points (53-33).

Union came out of the gate determined to give ALC no hope of a comeback. They scored 7 of the first 10 points to quickly extend their lead. The Lady Eagles fought hard but were never able to make a serious threat again.

For Alice Lloyd (0-6), Nickell and senior guard Gemma Gray were the only two players to reach double figures. Nickell racked up 18 points and added a team–high 6 rebounds while Gray ended up with 11. Senior Bailey Gabbard chipped in with 9.

Walters led Union (2-1) with game highs of 22 points and 8 rebounds.

Union only outshot ALC from the field 50% to 49%, but the Bulldogs had a major advantage as they hit twelve bombs to ALC’s six.
