Charles Dodd White, a powerful new voice in Appalachian fiction, will be visiting the campus of Alice Lloyd College during its Appalachia Day festival.  White recently served on the creative writing staff of the Hindman Settlement School’s Appalachian Writers Workshop alongside other esteemed writers from the region, among them Silas House, Lee Smith, George Ella Lyon, and Maurice Manning. His debut novel, Lambs of Men, was loved by critics, and White has garnered the praise and admiration of readers with his hauntingly beautiful prose in stories appearing in the prestigious publications Appalachian Heritage, Fugue, Night Train, and others. Of his new short story collection Sinners of Sanction County, reviewer Debra Leigh Scott of The New York Journal of Books proclaims, “It is masterful. It is one of the best short story collections published this year. It should win a bushel-full of awards.” That’s high praise for this former Marine who is quickly becoming Appalachia’s next literary sensation.

Charles Dodd White will be meeting and greeting potential readers and signing copies of his work on Saturday, October 8th, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the porch of Alice Lloyd College’s Davis Student Center. Don’t miss your chance to shake the hand of Appalachia’s next big author.
