Elementary students in grades K-3 from The June Buchanan School visited the Pumpkin Patch at Four Star Village in Red Fox, KY. JBS students learned several amazing facts about pumpkins while also engaging in a variety of fall activities. Students enjoyed pig races, painting pumpkins, fall dances, decorating cookies, relay races, an inflatable corn box, noodle fights on haystacks, and a country spin on the game of Twister. These activities were very much enjoyed by the students and allowed them the opportunity to bond with their classmates while learning about the season and icons of autumn.

JBS teachers Robin Cook, Sharon Gregory, and Amy Hofsess express their excitement with this field trip from year to year. Ms. Hofsess, our JBS third grade instructor, states, “Not only was the Pumpkin Patch fun, but it was educational!” First grade instructor, Ms. Gregory, chimes in, saying, “Ours kids simply love the Pumpkin Patch! We look forward to going each year, as much as our students.” And Ms. Cook, the kindergarten instructor, adds, “The very fact that students are continuously involved in the hands-on activities provided at 4-Star, such as picking and painting the pumpkins, ensures that students stay active and on-task. They love it!”

The 4-Star Village establishment is owned by Jimmy and Regina Niece. Along with the corporation’s team, 4-Star provides catering services, rental cabins, a lake that can be reserved for special events, and much more to the surrounding counties and states. Regina Niece says, “This is our fifth year having the Pumpkin Patch at 4-Star Village. It has been no less than amazing! Each child who comes to our Pumpkin Party gets a stamp on their face and is told they are official Pumpkin Patch kids for the rest of their lives. As we celebrate the harvest, we are thankful for all good things that come from above.” JBS plans to continue taking kids to the Pumpkin Patch every year as this field trip continues to stand true to the mission of the school, which is to “nurture our students intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually, emphasizing the development of character, responsibility, leadership, and service.”
