Recently, in conjunction with Alice Lloyd College’s Appalachia Day celebration, the JBS Advanced Art Studio class created their own artistic version of what Appalachia means to them. Coal-themed artwork was featured, along with paintings of loved ones, textile art, and various forms of sculpture and ink drawings. This is the first year for the class, and the high school students look forward to hosting even more art exhibits in 2011–2012.

The students are also members of the JBS ACE CLUB (Art and Cultural Enrichment), which studies and visits culturally–enriching events. During the last school year, the students visited Biltmore House and Gardens, stayed at Opryland Hotel, watched the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring The Rockettes, visited the Cincinnati Art Museum, and saw the Broadway show Young Frankenstein. This year, they’re excited to be going to New York City for the holidays where they will see Spider–Man on Broadway, along with the new 9-11 Memorial.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support the ACE CLUB and all of their endeavors.
