On September 12th The June Buchanan Preschool took a crash course on heavy equipment and transportation. Guest speakers from the Department of Transportation visited the children after they had completed their unit titled “Construction Week.” During that week, students drew blueprints and designed a road. To enhance the activities in the classroom, Daycare and Preschool Coordinator, Darlene Slone, invited guest speakers Vennie Click, Mike Smith, and Glenn Dobson to share some neat information and hands-on experiences. Students were allowed to climb inside the cabs of a dozer and dump truck, blow the horn on each piece of equipment, and raise the dozer’s blade. The kids watched as the workers dumped a load of dirt from the dozer into the back of the dump truck. About the event, Ms. Slone said, “It was great for the children to see the heavy equipment. The children were able to ask questions and view the different road signs. It was a wonderful day!”
