After a stretch of rainy weather that had wrecked havoc on the baseball schedule, Coach Scott Cornett’s Alice Lloyd College baseball team finally hosted KIAC foe Berea College in a two day doubleheader over the weekend. The series featured 2 blowouts and 2 nailbiters.The Eagles won the opening game before they suffered some setbacks in the final three. Following are recaps of each game.
April 30
Game 1; ALC-11, AU-1
ALC registered 7 runs in the opening inning to earn the crushing victory. The Eagles outhit BC 12-3 Tyler Estep went 4 -4 to lead the way. Trevor Corns earned the victory on the mound.
Game 2; ALC-4, CCU-7
The Eagles led 4-2 after 4 innings but could not maintain their lead. Taylor Sewell had 2 of the Eagles 6 hits. Jeff Cyrus suffered the pitching loss.
May 1
Game 1; ALC-10, AU-0
The Eagles only recorded 2 hits in the defeat. Pitcher Corey Brewer suffered the loss.
Game 2; ALC-9, AU-11
The Eagles jumped out 6-3 after 4 innings and still led 7-6 in the top of the seventh. Berea responded with 5 runs in the top of the inning. The Eagles didn’t quit as they cut the deficit to 2 and had the winning run at the plate with only one out before succumbing. Cody Hyden suffered the loss.
