The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team traveled to Berea to participate in the KIAC Tournament. The double elimination tournament featured 1 inspiring victory and 2 heartbreaking losses. Below are recaps of each contest.

May 4

ALC-12, Brescia University-5

Brescia jumped ahead 4-1 and led 5-2 after seven innings, only to watch the Eagles storm back and earn the win. ALC outhit their opponent 20-13 as they scored 10 runs over the final 2 innings. Senior Kyle Potter had a monster game as he went 4-5 from the plate. He belted a powerful homerun and had 2 doubles. He also added 2 RBI’s and scored 3 runs. Fellow senior Jordan Stumbo went 3-5 and drove in 2 more runs. Chris Adams and Devon Pelfrey each added 3 hits apiece.

Eagle pitcher Trevor Corns struck out 4 batters over 7 innings. Will Ray came on in relief and earned the victory

May  5

Game 1; ALC-3- Indiana University Southeast-5

The Eagles played well against the top seed. IU jumped ahead 4-1 and the score remained unchanged until the last of the 8th, when ALC scored 2 runs to slice the deficit to 4-3. In the top of the 9th, Indiana added an insurance run, and they were able to hold on for the win. For the game, the Eagles were outhit 10-7. Big Cody Hyden went 3-4 from the plate. Pitcher Neil Dillon suffered the loss on the mound.

Game 2; ALC-1, Cincinnati Christian-2

In a contest that proved to be a pitcher’s duel, CCU scored 1 run in the bottom of the first ,as Eagle pitcher Wayne Sparks was forced to leave the game with an elbow injury. Corey Brewer came on in relief and held CCU bats in check for 7 innings. The Eagles scored 1 run in the top of the 2nd to tie the game. The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the 8th when Cincinnati belted a homerun. They then retired the Eagles in the last inning to earn the win.

Playing in his last game, ALC outfielder Potter had 2 of the Eagle’s 4 hits. Hyden had the lone RBI.

Brewer pitched brilliantly but suffered the loss on the mound.
