Alice Lloyd College and the June Buchanan School are pleased to announce their production of Antigone by Sophocles and adapted by Emily Mann.
About the Play:  Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta.  After Oedipus left the throne in shame and disgrace, his sons Polyneices and Eteocles fought for the throne and killed each other in a civil war.  The new King, Creon, now declares that Eteocles will be buried and honored as a hero while Polyneices’ body will rot away in disgrace.  Antigone, refusing to obey Creon, asks her sister Ismene to help bury Polyneices’ body.  Ismene declares that they cannot bury Polyneices and that Antigone must understand Creon’s intentions leaving Antigone to take it upon herself to bury her dead brother.  King Creon declares that Antigone must die for her treachery.  When the prophet Teiresias warns Creon of how his actions have angered the gods, Creon tries to repent before his mistake costs his own son’s life.  Does Creon have enough time to appease the Gods before they exact their revenge?

Antigone will be presented on March 31st at 7:30 pm, April 1st at 10:00 am and 7:30 pm, and again on April 2nd at 7:30 pm.

Concessions will be sold before and after the show.
