Trey Moore, a sixth grade student at The June Buchanan School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship.  The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 23rd annual National Geographic Bee.

The kickoff for this year’s Bee was the week of November 15, with thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories participating.  The school winners, including Trey, will now take a written test; up to 100 of the top scorers in each state will be eligible to compete in their state Bee on April 1, 2011.

Trey, the son of Brad and Crystal Moore of Bevinsville, Kentucky, is also an active member of the JBS Middle School Academic team.  During this year’s KAAC Governor’s Cup Competition, Trey was named the District Champion in both Social Studies and Science, and helped the JBS Quick Recall team win first place as well.  At the Regional level, Trey claimed 2nd in Social Studies, which qualifies him for the State Competition.  The June Buchanan School would like to congratulate Trey on his outstanding academic accomplishments!
