John Mills, who guided the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles to a second place finish in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Conference regular season standings, has been voted by his peers as the 2010-2011 KIAC Women’s Coach of the Year.

Mills returned to Alice Lloyd this year after a nine year stint at Berea College. Inheriting a squad picked in the preseason to finish 7th   out of 8 teams, Mills and the Lady Eagles surprised the league by tying for 2nd with a 9-4 conference mark. Two of the losses came at the hands of the defending champion, and only undefeated team in the league, IU Southeast. ALC fell by 4 points each game, and the final contest went into overtime.

When asked about his honor Mills replied, “These awards are special because you are being recognized by your peers. However, your players have to produce the results. I am just simply the recipient of these ladies’ hard work and dedication. This award actually belongs to them more than it belongs to me.”

Mills is no stranger to such honors. He has received the same award previously on the women’s level once before (1994 TVAC Coach of the Year). On the men’ level, he has been voted NAIA Regional Coach of the Year once (2003), and KIAC Coach of the Year three times (2004, 2008, 2009)
Alice Lloyd opens KIAC Tournament play on Tuesday, February 22nd, when the will host the Asbury University Eagles. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
