ALC-74; Berea-65

Junior forward Gemma Gray (Manchester) and freshman forward Ariel Nickell (Claiborne, Tn.) combined for 46 points to lead the Lady Eagles to victory over the visiting Mountaineers.

Berea jumped out of the gate strong and led the entire first half. ALC fought back and cut the deficit to only one (35-34) by intermission.

In the second half, ALC quickly seized the lead and extended it to double figures. BC continued to fight, but the Lady Eagles held on for the victory.

For the winners (7-11; 3-2 KIAC)) Gray led all scorers with 25 points (7-11 FG, 10-11 FT) and a game high 8 rebounds. Nickell tossed in 21 (8-15 FG, 5-6 FT) and hauled down 7 boards.

Senior guard Whitney Frazier (Louisa) kept up her steady play as she added 16.

Berea (3-19; 2-6 KIAC) was paced by 22 points from Stephanie Householder.

Linda Carroll led Asbury (9-14; 1-5 KIAC) with 17.

ALC-67; Cincinnati Christian-62

Cincinnati Christian entered the Grady Nutt Athletic Center as one of the league’s hottest clubs, but a spirited effort from the hosts and 25 points from Nickell led ALC to the important win.

In the first half, both clubs played hard. A late spurt by the hosts gave them a nine point lead (36-27) at the break.

CCU rallied to tie the contest, but Nickell and Gray led the Eagles to a ten point lead with 8:00 remaining.

Once again, CCU rallied to tie at 58-58 with only 3:20 left. Lady Eagle senior Chelsee Jarrell broke the tie with a clutch charity toss. Frazier and Gray then sank back to back buckets to seal the win.

In addition to Nickells’ big effort, ALC (9-11; 5-2 KIAC) also received 16 points from Gray. Frazier added 15 points and dished out 10 assists to complete a double-double.

In addition to her tie breaking free throw, Jarrell ripped down 8 big boards to pave the way in that department.
