  Students in Mrs. Robin Cook’s Kindergarten class and Mrs. Sharon Gregory’s 1st grade class at The June Buchanan School have been working very hard this semester!  In addition to their regular classroom work, they recently enjoyed activities celebrating the Knott County Gingerbread Festival.     Students listened to the story of The Gingerbread Man and then got to use their own storytelling skills by creating Gingerbread Man props to retell this classic story to the rest of the class!Keeping with the gingerbread theme, students studied symmetry and patterns in math class, and then used these principles to decorate gingerbread men.  However, their favorite activity was a scavenger hunt to find the Gingerbread Man!  After receiving a mysterious letter, students were presented with clues leading them on a search throughout the school.  While the clues were challenging, the students solved them all and were successful in finding the Gingerbread Man..on plates at their desks!!!Additionally, the Kindergarten and 1st grade students have had a special visitor to their classrooms.  Sarah Owens, a Senior speech student at The June Buchanan School, has been practicing her public speaking skills by reading to these classes.  Sarah has been reading to the students at least once a week.  She stated that “I love the kids!  They are our future, so I feel that I accomplish so much by helping them!”  The students thoroughly enjoy having Sarah visit their class, and want to thank her for spending time with them!{nl}{nl}
