The Alice Lloyd Eagles opened the 2010-2011 cross country season on September 2nd at the A-J Classic sponsored by Chick-Fil-A. The meet took place at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY.{nl}The weather was hot and humid with temperatures well above 90 degrees. In the women’s race, 4 ladies represented the blue and white, followed by 2 men for the second race.{nl}Sixty-three ladies started the first race. The Lady Eagles were paced by fellow freshmen Courtney Crowder and Amanda Sullivan, who completed the 5K race in times of 30:11 and 30:14 respectively. Also representing ALC were sophomore Kimberly Schroeder, and first time runner, freshman Jerika Van Dyke. Both ladies demonstrated a lot of grit during the race.{nl}In the men’s race, 68 men left with the opening gun. Senior Steven Call completed the course in 24:29. Freshman Corey Paige, competing in his first meet, finished with a time of 32:31. In commenting on his clubs first meet, Coach Gary Stepp replied,” I was pleased with the effort of all six runners for this first race. Since we have only been able to have three days of practice, our main objective was to set a reference time for our runners to improve on. The weather conditions made the meet very difficult, but everyone fought through the heat and humidity with a lot of determination.”{nl}The next race will take place on Saturday, September 11 at the Gingerbread Run in Hindman, Ky.
