{nl}Alice Lloyd Eagles Coach JR Hammond has announced the signing of June Buchanan high scoring shooting guard Clint Stepp to a basketball scholarship. Stepp signed in a ceremony held at the school on Thursday afternoon with his family, teammates, and classmates all present. {nl}Alice Lloyd was hoping to land a scorer for the 2011 season and was thrilled to learn that Stepp elected to stay home to wear the royal blue and white. “I am so excited to be able to add a player of Clint’s caliber to our roster” said an ecstatic Hammond. “There were several times over the past year that I wondered if we would be able to keep him home or watch him leave for another university. Any time a coach as a chance to sign one of the top three point shooters in state history, he is unquestionably thrilled.”{nl}{nl}Stepp had an outstanding career as a member of the Crusaders.  This season, he was nominated for the prestigious McDonalds All-American squad and was selected to the Louisville Courier Journal’s all state team as an Honorable Mention All-State selection. He completed his senior season by averaging a regional best 20 ppg. His club finished as district runner-up and advanced to the 14th Regional Tournament. He closed out his career with 1,652 points, which is third all-time in school history. On the state level, Stepp was considered for years as one of the state’s premier shooting guards and he proved it by connecting on 372 three point baskets over his career. According to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, this places him 3rd all-time on the state’s career leaders list.{nl}Stepp had many highlights over his entire career. As a freshman, he was a valuable part of the 2007 club that captured the state’s imagination when they made a magical run to Rupp Arena by winning the 14th Regional Championship and finishing 26-7. The team was featured in newspapers across the country, including USA Today, as the tiny school with only 75 students and big dreams. His first big impression that season was made for helping lead the Crusaders to the WYMT Mountain Classic Championship where he poured in a game high 20 points in the championship win over Bell County. He was named all-tournament for his efforts.{nl}As a sophomore, he was a major part of the 2008 club that was ranked as high as 8th in the state and won their second consecutive WYMT Mountain Classic Championship, and as a junior, he had an excellent season and was among the state’s top 3 point shooters for the third consecutive year.{nl}He was also a three year member of the prestigious Derrick Smith All Star squad where he demonstrated his shooting prowess on the national level by connecting on as many as 11 three pointers in a single game. {nl}
