ALC played host to Hiwassee on April 1st and earned a split over the two games.{nl}GAME 1{nl}ALC-2; HC-1{nl}Alison Feltner lined a two out pitch up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning and drove in the winning run as the ALC Lady Eagles earned their first softball win of the season 2-1 over Hiwassee.{nl}The game was a pitcher’s duel as ALC’S Lauren Whited matched HC pitching batter for batter. Through seven innings, neither team could score a run. Hiwassee scored in the top of the eighth and looked to close out the contest, but Eagle Wendy Harris answered in the bottom half of the inning as she singled home Nikki Durman to knot things at 1-1. ALC’S Whited retired the side in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the inning, Elizabeth Taylor advanced to third on a ground ball. Feltner then smashed a 2-2 pitch up the middle to end the contest.{nl}Kaitlin Chapman added two hits to the cause. Whited earned the victory on the mound, as she went distance while striking out 14 batters.{nl}GAME 2{nl}HC-7; ALC-2{nl}A 4 run sixth inning by Hiwassee doomed the Lady Eagles, but they were hurt more by 10 errors and 8 runners stranded on base. For ALC, Melissa May had 2 hits and Rebecca Stansberry drove in both runs. Rebecca Compton suffered the pitching loss.
