The Alice Lloyd Eagles opened the 2010 portion of their season by traveling to Point Lookout, Missouri, to play in the elite McDonalds Cam Jam Classic hosted by the College of The Ozarks. ALC Coach JR Hammond’s squad was faced with the unenviable task of facing two of the country’s premier NAIA programs from the powerful Midlands Athletic Conference in a two day span.{nl}First on the agenda were the Bellevue Bruins (Nebraska).{nl}Last year, the Bruins finished with 24 wins, and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Tournament. This season, they were the preseason # 12 squad in the nation. After a rocky start, they entered Monday’s contest playing their best ball of the season as they were riding a seven game winning streak against stiff competition. In this matchup, Bellevue showed why they are playing as well as any team in the country in defeating the Eagles 111-65.{nl}In posting the victory, the Bruins exploded for 59 first half points and shot an outstanding 57.5% from the field for the game (including 10-21 from downtown), while limiting the Eagles to only 36.8% shooting. For ALC (4-7), three players cracked double digits. They were led in scoring by junior guard Daniel Combs with 13 points and a team high 6 rebounds. Sophomores Nick Brumback and Van Ferguson contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.{nl}For Bellevue (11-6), Ousseynou Diop paced six double figure scorers with 23. {nl}In game two on Tuesday, the Eagles would face the home standing College of the Ozarks Bobcats (Missouri). Last year, Ozarks advanced all the way to the NAIA National Championship game before falling to the nation’s top team (Oklahoma Wesleyan) 60-53, and finished their season with 25 big wins.{nl}This year, the Bobcats started the season on shaky ground. The preseason # 5 squad in the nation had   several new players still learning their roles. Because of this and the additional fact that they have played a strong schedule, COTO won only two of their first eight contests. However, since their last loss on November 20, they have been clicking on all cylinders and have exploded for seven consecutive wins by an average margin of 15 points per game.{nl}The contest started well for both teams, but after a bucket by Eagle guard Van Ferguson put ALC up 11-9 with 15 minutes remaining in the first half, the Bobcats exploded. Over the next eight minutes, they ripped off a 31-11 run, and when the dust settled, the score stood 40-22, Ozarks. At intermission, the margin was still 18 (60-42).{nl}In the second half, after a bucket by COTO forward Derrick Williams at the 15:56 mark made the score 70-47 in favor of the Bobcats, the Eagles made their move. {nl}Sparked by three 3 point baskets from junior guard Will Jones, Alice Lloyd ripped off a 17-6 run over the next 5:40, and when power forward Nick Brumback connected inside the paint at the 10:06 mark, the deficit was only 10(76-66). This prompted an Ozarks timeout.{nl}Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Bobcats regrouped and were able to maintain their lead the rest of the way. Alice Lloyd sophomore Brandon Hayes connected on a ten footer to cut the lead to seven (92-85) with 1:37 remaining, but that was as close as the Eagle’s could get.{nl}For ALC (4-8) Ferguson paced four double digit scorers with 23. Brumback contributed 14 along with a team high 7 rebounds. Both Jones and junior guard Daniel Combs added 10.{nl}For Ozarks (10-6), Williams paved the way with 21. Forward Jared Howerton added 19 and a game high 11 rebounds.{nl}After the long trip home, the Eagles prepare to open up conference play as they travel to Richmond, Indiana on Saturday January 9. There, they will face the always tough Red Wolves of Indiana University-East in a 2pm showdown.{nl}They return home on January 13 when they join the Lady Eagles for a doubleheader against the challenging Brescia Bearcats. Game times are at 5:30/7:30pm.
