The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Richmond, Indiana to open up KIAC conference play against last season’s runner-up, the Red Wolves of Indiana University- East.{nl}In this matchup, the Red Wolves broke open a close game in the second half to defeat the Eagles 89-65.{nl}In the first half, sparked by star guard Tyler Rigby, IUE raced out to a 45-31 lead by intermission. ALC took the floor in the second half and responded with an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to only three (45-32).{nl}After a timeout, the Red Wolves responded with a 14-0 run of their own, and were never threatened again.{nl}For the Eagles, (4-8, 0-1), two players cracked double digits. They were led in scoring by junior guard Daniel Combs with 20 points. Sophomore Brandon Hayes contributed 16 points and a team high 9 rebounds. Several Eagles were sick, including leading scorer Nick Brumback, who added 7 points in a very limited role.{nl}For IUE (9-7, 1-1), Rigby, who is already the career scoring leader in Red Wolf history, led the way with a game high 21.{nl}Alice Lloyd will look to get on the winning track on Wednesday, January 13, when they return home for an important district matchup with the Brescia Bearcats. Their matchup follows the Lady Eagle- Lady Bearcat contest which starts at 5pm. Both Eagle squads will follow up that game with a trip on Saturday, January 16 to Cincinnati to face the Eagles of Cincinnati Christian University. Game times are women at 1pm and men at 3pm.
