Junior forward Nicole Lutes drained an 22 footer as time expired, and propelled the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles to a hard-fought 68-67 decision over the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots last night. The Fighting Scots are a member of NCAA Division II.{nl}Both clubs competed well throughout the first half, and ALC managed to forge a slim 33-30 advantage by intermission.{nl}In the second half, the game remained tight. The Lady Eagles fought to hold on to their lead, but OVU, behind 6’3 Kendra Benedict, managed to pull ahead 66-65 with just .30 remaining. After missing on their next possession, Alice Lloyd had no choice but to foul, and they stopped the clock with only 6.6 to play. Ohio Valley guard Denae Beavers hit the first to make the score 67-65. Her second fell short and was pulled down by ALC junior guard Bailey Gabbard. She quickly got the ball to lighting fast Whitney Frazier heading down court. Frazier found Lutes behind the arc, and she calmly performed her heroics. The buzzer sounded as the ball was in flight, and the Lady Eagles celebrated the victory.{nl}For ALC (4-8), four ladies cracked double digits. They were led in scoring by the junior Frazier with 21 points. Gabbard and sophomore Gemma Grey each chipped in with 13, while Lutes finished with 10.For OVU (2-3), they were led by Benedict and Beavers, each with 15.{nl}ALC will be off until January 13, when they return home for a conference matchup with the Brescia Bearcats. Game time is set for 5pm.
