The Alice Lloyd Eagles came out of the gates strong and knocked off Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, the University of Virginia-Wise Cavaliers, 85-77. The entertaining matchup took place before a large crowd at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center.{nl}After losing to Wise by 29 points last month, ALC was determined not to have a repeat performance. Both clubs played hard in the first twenty minutes, but the Eagles were able to quickly vault to a double figure lead and settled for a 45-30 cushion at intermission. {nl}The Eagles maintained their inspired play into the second half and increased their lead to as much as 21 points.{nl}With their back against the wall, UVW showed their determination as they refused to go away quietly. Sparked by a 15-4 run, they managed to cut the deficit to only 9 with 7:00 remaining.{nl}Alice Lloyd needed a big play to reverse the momentum, and that was just what they got in the form of a clutch three from junior guard Daniel Combs. His bucket ignited a 7-2 Eagle run which effectively ended the Cavaliers last serious threat.{nl}For ALC (2-4), three players cracked double digits. They were led in scoring by Combs, who shot well and finished with a career high 28. Junior forward Will Jones and sophomore guard Van Ferguson came off the bench to contribute 12 and 10 points to the cause.{nl}For UVW (3-4), whose previous three losses were by a combined total of nine points, they were led in scoring by Josh Jordan with 15 points, and Pance Kecev with 14. Travis Berry and Norris Gaskins each added 12. {nl}ALC returns to action on Saturday, December 5, when they travel to Pikeville for an 8pm matchup with the Pikeville Bears.
