The Alice Lloyd women’s and men’s cross country team traveled to Berea, KY on Saturday, September 19th to participate in the Berea College Invitational race. A very strong field was in attendance, and the rain thankfully held off until the morning run was completed.{nl}{nl}A total of 66 men’s runners and 73 women runner’s from various colleges, including West Virginia University, comprised the field for the challenging 3.1 mile race and 5 mile race. The course featured several small hills, a wooded section, and even a water obstacle that required everyone to run through the creek that was on campus.{nl}{nl}The Lady Eagles were paced by freshman Ashley Foster (Peebles, OH) who completed the course with a time of 32:08. This placed her 68th overall, and was over two minutes faster than her first race last week.   Senior Kasey Blair (Somerset, KY) and junior Sarah Burchell (Manchester, KY) finished in times of 32:33 and 32:34 respectively. Blair’s time placed her 69th, while Burchell’s placed her 70th.  Freshman Kimberly Schroder (Louisa, KY) and senior Miranda Horn (Pilgrims Knob, VA) crossed the finish line with identical times of 38:41. This placed them 71st.{nl}{nl}The Eagles were paced by senior Tim Estes (Beattyville, KY) who completed the course with a time of 35:18. This placed him 53rd overall.  Juniors Steven Call (Gallipolis, OH) and Casey Dalton (Nancy, KY) finished in times of 35:47 and 36:16 respectively. Call’s time placed him 56th, while Dalton’s placed him 59th.  Freshman Matthew Moorefield (Hopkinsville, KY) crossed the finish line with a time of 37:51. This placed him 62nd.{nl}”This was a very demanding race and the field was exceptionally strong,” commented Coach Gary Stepp. “We have a very young and inexperienced squad, so the experience of racing against this level of competition will only help improve our times. The effort was outstanding from everyone and I was pleased with their effort.”{nl}The next meet will be on Saturday, September 26th.  Both squads will race in the Georgetown College Invitational, which will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. The race begins at 9:00 am.
